Dr. Luis Amado obtained his graduation on Applied Chemistry/Biotechnology at School of Science Technology, of New University of Lisbon (http://www.fct.unl.pt/), final mark of 16/20. From October 1991 to October 1992 developed the project "Induction of DNA methylation at different onthogenic phases of rye, wheat and triticale: its effects in chromosome pairing and crossing-over" at the Molecular Cytogenetics Group of the Agriculture Institute, Technical University of Lisbon (http://www.isa.utl.pt/). For the development of this Project he got a grant from the National Scientific and Technological Portuguese Board (JNICT nowadays FCT (http://www.fct.mct.pt/)). In October of 1992 got a grant from JNICT to develop a PhD project about "Genomic interactions and methylaion effects in the expression of in Triticea ribosomal genes”, in the Molecular Cytogenetics Group of the Agriculture Institute, Technical University of Lisbon. This thesis was unanimously approved by the jury in 29th of October 1999.
 
Worked for a governmental agency ACACSA (http://www.acacsa.min-agricultura.pt/) during 18 months where he was responsible for the of olive oil quality control. Lead auditor course in ISO 9000 and ISO 14000.
 
He as also teaching experience since he tough Genetic Engineering at Lusófona University (http://www.ulusofona.pt/), Lisboa for two semesters.
 
Has been awarded as an outstanding student in the “Master of Science in Science and Technology Commercialisation”, IC2 Institute at the University of Texas, Austin, USA and have been involved in the IMPACT Program “Innovation and Internationalization of Companies through the Application and Commercialisation of Technology”, Instituto Superior Técnico, IST, Lisboa, Portugal.
 
Since 1995 he has collaborated with biotech start-up companies and has been involved in of European projects elaboration, more recently is also involved in the evaluation of projects supported by EU funds (member of over all evaluation team for PEDIP II).
 
In the beginning of the year 2000 following started the collaboration with BIOTECNOL, S.A. where he took the position of Executive Vice-President. His job at Biotecnol is the coordination of the daily procedures regarding the accomplishment of the strategic decisions and politics emanated by the board. He is responsible for the overall management of personnel and for the business development.
 
He has been involved in the APBio foundation and since then has been a pretty active in events organised within it namely in the Iberic Bioentrepreneurship contest.
